Colors essays The central figures are a pair of cops, played by Sean Penn and Robert Duvall, assigned to C.R.A.S.H., which stands for Community Resource Against Street Hoodlums, and is the Los Angeles task force on gangs. Hodges, played by Duvall, is the older of the two who is a battle-toughened vet in his last year until retirement. Over the years on the gang beat Hodges has created a system of credits with different gang members and is well known amongst gangs. Hodges new rookie partner McGavin, wants to get tougher with the gangs. He's tired of Hodges' style of nonconfrontation and letting them go by sayingYou oh me one?. McGavin doesn't win over many friends with his brutal style of enforcing the law. There are many good moments in "Colors," but the one I will remember the most is in the scene where a group of Los Angeles gang members are trying to explain why the gang is so important to them. Talking to a couple of cops, they describe the feeling of belonging, and of feeling for the first time in their lives that they were part of a "family" that cared for them and was ready to die for them. Their family also known as gangs deal in drugs, defend its turf and murders to show their superiority. As the opening credits say they?re over 600 street gangs and 70,000 gang members in Los Angeles alone. The 2 cops Hodges (the veteran) and McGavin (the rookie) have altercations with 3 main gangs of Watts in east L.A., the Bloods, the Crips, and the Hispanics. The Hispanic gang who is most often associate with. A man named Frog a key player in the Hispanic gang is seen cooperating and even helping Hodges throughout the movie. I like how the movie follows the life of Frogs little brother Fe lipe and shows for a moment to have a chance to escape gang society with the help of Frog, but in the end gang life catches up with Felipe and joins his brother as a gangbanger.
